Concurrent Session - Creating a Strategic Communication Plan for Student Success

Alyssa Brigham

Advisors serve as liaisons, advocates, coaches, and a resource for students with everything we do and try to accomplish. Much of our role consists of staying updated on current policies, practices, and processes and then communicating that concisely to our students. In today’s chaotic email inbox, our communication needs to be comprehensive yet efficient and timely. In this presentation, advisors will reflect on the student groups they should contact regularly for intervention and the content and expectations that are being delivered regularly to students. Together, we will turn that content into a strategic plan with examples, tools, and resources. As a result, advisors will plan their communication strategically in advance, which may help to disperse stress and appointments throughout the semester instead of reactive advising during pre-registration time.
